Monthly vs Annual Salary Explained
Convert salary periods consistently and avoid mixing base salary, package value and take-home pay.
What the conversion actually tells you
Multiplying monthly salary by 12 creates a simple annual equivalent. Dividing annual salary by 12 creates a simple monthly equivalent. This is useful for comparison, but it does not reconstruct an employer's payslip.
- Monthly to annual: monthly salary × 12.
- Annual to monthly: annual salary ÷ 12.
- Use gross with gross, or net with net—never mix them.
Base salary is not always the package
Offer documents may include bonuses, insurance, retirement contributions or employer costs. If those amounts are included in an annual package but not in the monthly salary you enter, the two figures will not be directly comparable.
Before comparing two offers
Put both offers on the same annual or monthly basis, then list variable and non-cash benefits separately. A clean conversion gives you the common baseline; the remaining components require their own comparison.
