How Notice Period and Last Working Day Dates Work

Plan resignation and joining timelines without confusing calendar-day estimates with employer-approved dates.

Find the contractual starting point

The notice clock may begin when resignation is submitted, acknowledged or accepted. The calculator can add days to a date, but it cannot determine which starting rule applies to your employment agreement.

Calendar days and working days are different

A 30-calendar-day period includes weekends and holidays. A 30-working-day period usually does not. Confirm the wording before calculating; using the wrong convention can move the estimate materially.

  • Identify the official notice start date.
  • Confirm calendar days, working days or months.
  • Check leave, waiver and notice-buyout rules separately.

Treat the result as a planning date

Use the estimate to discuss availability with a future employer, but wait for written confirmation before committing to a joining date. HR may adjust the final day for policy, leave balance or an agreed early release.

Calculate with your own figures
